Cambridge Primary Maths is an innovative combination of curriculum and resources that supports teachers and learners through best-practice international maths teaching and a problem-solving approach.
This package brings together the world-class Cambridge Primary curriculum from Cambridge International Examinations, high-quality publishing from Cambridge University Press and expertise in engaging online enrichment materials for the mathematics curriculum from the NRICH project based at the University of Cambridge.
It offers teachers an online tool that maps resources and materials to specific areas of the curriculum. The resources include engaging online activities, Cambridge Primary textbooks and e-books, and examples of Cambridge Primary Maths in action.
Cambridge Primary curriculum
The Cambridge curriculum is dedicated to helping schools develop learners who are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged. The mathematics curriculum framework explores five content areas: Number, Geometry, Measure, Handling data and 'Problem solving', which describes using techniques and skills, and the application of understanding and strategies in solving problems. Mental strategies are also a key part of the 'Number' content. This curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject.
The Cambridge Primary curriculum framework is presented through learning objectives. These detail what the learner should know or what they should do in each year of the Cambridge Primary maths programme. Learning objectives are organised into the six content areas listed above also known as 'strands'. Each strand is broken down further into sub-strands, for example 'calculation'.
Each learning objective within the Cambridge Primary curriculum framework is assigned a unique code, for example, 1Nc1. This code shows the stage (1Nc1), the strand (1Nc1), the sub-strand (1Nc1) and the learning objective within that sub-strand (1Nc1).
Cambridge Primary Maths resources
The Cambridge Primary Maths textbooks from Cambridge University Press provide best-in-class support for this problem-solving approach, based on pedagogical practice found in successful schools across the world. The engaging NRICH online resources help develop mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills.
